Flying Naked Ladies is the online home of Designers Circus: for over thirty years, Boston’s under-the-radar destination for women who love clothes with a story.
It began in Guatemala. Our co-founder, known to everyone as KO, traveled there four times a year as a young designer, into the highlands, carrying duffles of clothing for orphanages, working side by side with Mayan weavers whose hand-spun, hand-dyed, hand-loomed cotton she brought into her own collections. Creating work and markets for their craft wasn’t publicity; it was simply how she lived.
Near the volcanoes of Antigua, a Mayan elder studied her hands and told her she would meet the love of her life: “a man with a boy.” Ten years later, on a brutally cold Boston night, she did.
Together they created the Circus.
The Circus is exactly what its name promises: designers, artists, and customers, many of whom become our staff, creating an experience for each other, and letting you in on the secret. It’s a sample sale, a pop-up, a party, and a philosophy: the product first, a personal relationship with every customer, and no hype. Like an artist, we make what we love, and invite you into our world.
